Hiking and the passion to collect things are combined in the Harzer Wandernadel (Harz Hiking Badge). 222 stamp checkpoints were placed at the most beautiful rambling destinations and viewing points: on your way to become a Harz Wandering Emperor for those who have collected all the stamps, can discover many unknown places of the Harz mountains.

Once you have collected all stamps required for the hiking pass, you may get some special wandering booklets, among other, at the Tourist Information in Ilsenburg. Go on a literary search for traces with the booklets Harz Hiking Badge and the special topic badge "Goethe in the Harz". Without any doubt, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was one of the most famous visitors of the Harz mountains. The Hiking Badge Goethe in the Harz will guide you to 28 places and sites where Goethe was once staying. Leave sustainable foot prints with the wandering booklet "Nature at the Luther trail" and collect ten stamps in total to be rewarded with the Hiking Badge "Luther at the Harz". Along the former inner-German border 20 checkpoints waiting for you to obtain the topic badge "Harzer Grenzweg (border trail)". Experience at first hand German history and habitats unfold before you.

With the pilgrimage passport "Harzer Klosterwanderweg“ you will be collecting numerous special stamps during your tours. Get enthused by the „stamp collecting fever“ and obtain a passport plus badge at the participating monasteries or Tourist Information. On 95 kilometres you can discover the monasteries, churches and attractive nature of the Harz. The Harzer Klosterwanderweg helps to recover spirit, body and soul. Find your inner peace and relaxation on a hiking tour with natural paths. Take a rest at the unique Angel Benches along the way and get yourself the special badge of the Harzer Klosterwanderweg.

Hiking with children

The hiking trail network of more than 8,000 kilometres offers walks around Ilsenburg which are children-friendly. No time to be bored! Take your children and have a look from the Ilsestein over the entire area of the Nationalpark around Ilsenburg, or collect stamps at the checkpoints of the Harzer Wandernadel together with your children. With only 11 stamps children have the opportunity to become a Wanderprinz or a Wanderprinzessin. The Stamp Passes are available at the Tourist Information in Ilsenburg.
